Introduction to the Wealth God

The Wealth God in Chinese Taoism is the deity responsible for the sources of wealth in the world. According to Chinese folk customs, New Year's Eve is the most festive day of the Spring Festival. On this night, people eat dumplings and stay awake all night, waiting to welcome the Wealth God. Some even invite the Wealth God to their homes, and offerings are made to the Wealth God on the second day of the New Year. Nowadays, the most popular day to welcome the Wealth God is the fifth day of the lunar month.

The Wealth God is categorized into Civil and Martial types, with Martial Wealth Gods such as Zhao Gongming and Guan Gong, while Civil Wealth Gods include Bi Gan and Fan Li. Additionally, people also believe in other Wealth Gods, such as the Five Saints, Chai Rong, Cai Gong and Cai Mu, He He Er Xian, Li Shi Xian Guan, Wen Chang Di Jun, and the living Wealth God Shen Wansan. Among these, the beliefs in the Civil and Martial Wealth Gods and the Five Saints are the most widespread.
